Human emotions, such as anxiety, depression, fear, joy, and laughter, profoundly affect our daily lives, they form a set of basic, evolved functions that are shared by all humans. Laughter is part of a universal language that all humans recognize and it can also be utilized to improve health and enhance teaching and learning. Laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts your mood, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress.
There are very few things I love more than a good, senseless giggle epidemic - you know, the contagious laughter that starts from the weirdest things, that feeling of pure joy of laughing simply because someone else is laughing - which might make it the most blissful contagious disease around.
With so much power to heal and renew, anytime you start laughing you should try to keep it up for as long as you possibly can. By extending laughter for as long as your lungs will allow, you also maximize the hit of the happiness chemical; endorphins, let them flow through your brain like this natural high.
The ability to laugh, play, and have fun not only makes life more enjoyable but also helps solve problems, connect with others, and think more creatively. People who incorporate humor and play into their daily lives find joy in the smallest things and are easily more grateful. And hey, aren't those the best people to be around, those who you can laugh with. Ah, the best.
To me laughing is such a fundamental part of enjoying life, it's the way I fell in love and to me it's the key to be a young at heart.
I know we or at least I joke about getting older and some might even complain about it but I'm really ok with it. I truly feel like it has more to do with earning levels of growth than actually becoming old. I've met some amazing seniors in my life and they were as young and silly as it gets.
And I'm not saying that old is a negative thing that needs to be stopped or even slowed down, I'm more interested in the youthfulness that some carry with them till the end. That vibe of enjoying life, laughing and being silly.
So I'm here to encourage you to laugh more. Hang out with those who make you snort your drinks and pee your pants because when laughter, humor and playfulness become integrated into your life, your creativity will flourish and you will start to feel energetic and alive. Laughter takes you to a higher place where you can view the world from a more relaxed, positive and joyful perspective.
Where to start? Smile. Smiling is the beginning of laughter, and like laughter, it’s contagious.
