Being an ass is never cool

Do you know that feeling when you've had a great customer service experience? The feeling of being important, that you mattered. That even if you didn't find what you were looking for you still left feeling excited; high-spirited. Isn't that what service providers are aiming for or at least they should be? We all have those encounters that have left us feeling embarrassed and horrible, we'll even go as far as boycotting a place, chain and brands because of it.


And this isn't just about customer service. But how we treat others on a daily basis in general. At home, school and work.

To me it is such a cringe-worthy, blood boiling thing to witness others intentionally making others feel less than, be it personal relationships or how employers talk to and about employees. That ego boosting "we are all equal, I'm just a little more equaler" syndrome.

When people go out of their way to make others feel bad about themselves, the reason is more often their own insecurity (which they will rarely admit).


I'm not saying that I'm an angel and don't get caught up in silly situations and say inappropriate stuff, but I am consciously paying more and more attention to my energy and behavior towards others. Like I've said before, making others feel good about themselves is a high for me.

So knowing this and how significant it is to most (all) people, how can we each recognize the importance of being mindful and attentive? Remarkable people think of others and regularly look for ways to positively influence and contribute.


You will never have to disrespect and insult others to be admired, as respect is never a given. It must always be earned. Pointing out others flaws won't minimize your own. And being an ass is never cool. Because like wild fire the flame of goodness will spread faster and create more light.
